Anime Review: Ghost Hunt ゴーストハント

If you’re one who is really into a complete and structured story line for animes, then this probably isn’t for you. However, coming from someone who usually is, give me a chance to try to convince you, Ghost Hunt, is a must watch.

Here’s the basic story outline: A first year high school student, Mai Taniyama, takes part in ghost hunting adventures with Kazuya Shibuya, a 17 year old manager of the Shibuya Psychic Research Center. With a team of a Buddhist monk, a priestess, a celebrity medium, a yin-yang master and a Catholic priest, these young people investigate in the paranormal. The story as a whole, focuses on Mai developing her psychic abilities as well as the identity of Kazuya whom she nicknames “Naru,” for his narcissistic attitude.

Now, here’s why I say that this anime may not be for you. The ANIME focuses more on individual files, rather than story and character development. For those of you who do not have background knowledge of the manga, will be left off somewhat confused and feel like the ending sucks. The anime leaves you with a bunch of questions: who exactly is Kazuya, why is he the way he is, what does Masako have on Kazuya, etc. So, here’s a little suggestion for those of you who would like to watch this anime, but not check out the manga: Wikipedia (obviously after, don’t wanna spoil the plot).

The individual cases themselves, though, are very well put together. Every character has his or her own role so you’ll never miss out on your favourite one (I liked the priest the most). Some cases are even a few episodes long, but it leaves you on your toes the whole time. Personally, I watched this anime in two sittings because it was just that intense. I liked how they incorporated an episode which was purely comedy, despite having some comedy relief during every episode already (definitely will help you sleep better at night). I’m not saying that this is a horror anime, but sometimes I did feel a little jittery because of gruesome imagery, and personally, I don’t deal with ghost stories very well.

Episode 11/File 4: Ghost Story in the Park!?
The only purely comedy episode which didn’t really have much depth to it. Oh wow listen to me, oooooh “depth.” Anyways, even though it didn’t do much to the overall story, it was definitely a breath of fresh air. It was nice to just watch the whole gang having fun while helping a ghost.
*Players beware*
Anyways, this is just gonna be a short review of Ghost Hunt. I’m lazy. Sorry? I’ll try to write a more detailed one for the next anime, TV show, or movie that I watch.

The whole gang’s ready to get rid of some ghosts. Aww yee. Now get your butt on Netflix and watch this show! =]
